Mr. Carlson,

We fly the soldier's flag, the square one. Our state flag is our sovereign flag of our state, and we also fly the Stars and Stripes, which is the sovereign flag of our nation, the United States of America, which is the nation of which our state is a part.

Even you can be happy with H-3588, because then our state flag will be flying out front, by itself. As you should know, our state flag was what the state leaders during the Confederacy used as South Carolina's national flag. So, our state flag flying out front represents state's rights.

Regards,

The Confederate Flag IS a symbol of the sovereignty of the people of the individual States. That is precisely why the powers that be want to tar it with a separate, ignoble symbolism. This flag is carried worldwide by groups seeking independence. Only in the US do we have this tremendous outcry from those who overwhelmingly are LED to believe in this other meaning. I look forward to the day when it will fly over every capital building in what will one day be a new Confederate States of America. Those who would strip the South of their pride in their ancestors sacrifices are free to leave and go where their twisted views and intolerance for us are tolerated.
For a Free Southland,

I come to this issue from a computer programmer's perspective.

My computer programs that I write get used by people, who we affectionately call users. They are they ones who judge whether the computer programs are useful; they judge the utility of the software. If they don't understand how to use the software, then I need their feedback -- specific feedback -- so that I can improve the software.

Just as beauty is in the eye of the beholder, the utility of computer software is in the mind of the user, and clarity is in the eyes and ears of the receiver.

We must judge communication by what the people receive. And we must take the time to do it because, as George Bernard Shaw once said, "The greatest problem of communication is the illusion that it has been accomplished."
