About

Each and every new day, the Confederate flag flies from a flagpole on the Statehouse grounds in Columbia, SC as if it’s our state’s governing flag, when it’s not.  The purpose of this blog is to provide a forum to inspire ordinary citizens to take action to take down the flag.

During the last session, there was a bill, H-3588, to take down the Confederate flag.  That bill called for our state flag to fly where the Confederate flag now flies, on every day except May 10.  What’s great about that bill is that it enables us to celebrate, on that day, the service of the Confederate soldiers and the anniversary of the reunification (and in some ways, rebirth) of our great nation, the United States of America.

Please call and write your state Representative and your state Senator to get them to reintroduce H-3588.  When we get this bill signed into law, we can respect the history, heritage, and hospitality that make South Carolina great.  And then we can welcome visiting tourists and student-athletes to our beautiful places with our smiling faces.

My name is Michael Rodgers, but this blog is not about me – it’s about taking down the flag.  I encourage comments, and I encourage people to submit entire posts.  Please add value to the discussion with your post.  Give us new information or say something in a new way.

The only rule is no name-calling.  Going along with this rule, of course, are the expectations of politeness and a lack of profanity in the posts and the comments.

Let’s work together to research, discuss, form strategies, develop tactics, and take action.  Thank you.
